Leila Rae SommerfeldAs a former volunteer counselor at Good Samaritan Ministries, a world-wide Christian non-profit mental health clinic in Beaverton, Oregon and former advocate of the Washington County Sexual Assault Resource Center, Leila Rae Sommerfeld spent countless hours helping women of sexual assault through the steps of recovery. She worked both with perpetrators and victims.

Leila leads Soul Care for Women, a confidential woman’s support group and teaches Taking Back Control, using material  from her award winning book Beyond Our Control: Restructuring Your Life after Sexual Assault. This is an eighteen-hour seminar for women seeking recovery from the aftermath of rape/sexual assault, and  guidance for those who want to help victims recover.  She is a former church lay counselor.  She holds an Advanced Certificate in Pastoral Care to Women from Western Seminary, Portland, Oregon, an Advanced Certificate in Lay Counseling from Good Samaritan Ministries, Beaverton, Oregon and is a member of the Oregon Christian Writers Association.

Leila Rae is a Certified Self-Defense Instructor for Just Yell Fire Self-Defense and The Family Safety & Self-Defense Institute.

Leila Rae Sommerfeld is a published award winning author with articles appearing in POSITIVE LIVING, PURPOSE MAGAZINE, THE STORY TELLER, THE PLOWMAN, THE GAITED HORSE, PRISIM MAGAZINE and Christian News Northwest. She is the author of Beyond the Bridge of Time, a novel (Deep River Books) and Beyond Our Control: Restructuring your Life after Sexual Assault. (Kregel)

Leila Rae lives with her husband, D. D. and their rescue dog, Max in Gresham, Oregon. They have three daughters, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Leila Rae is a passionate reader, loves gardening and is crazy about horses and dogs.
